The Governess Club by Ellie Macdonald
Guest Post & Giveaway!

Please join me in welcoming Ellie Macdonald author of the Avon Books series The Governess Club. Before I turn the blog over to here are the descriptions for the Claire and Bonnie the first two books in this series.

Four regency misses, making their ways as governesses make a pact in order to leave London and support themselves in the country. Thus, the Governess Club was born. But little did they know that their heroes might have something else to say about the matter.

Book #1: Claire
Claire Bannister just wants to be a good governess so that she, and the other ladies of the Governess Club, can make enough money to leave their jobs and start their own school in the country. But when the new, sinfully handsome, and utterly distracting tutor arrives, Claire finds herself caught up in a whirlwind romance that could change the course of her future.

Jacob Knightly has a secret. He's actually the notorious Earl of Rimmel. He's just posing as a tutor to escape his reputation in the city. He never expected to fall in love with the beautiful and kind governess. She is the first person to love him for himself and not his title.

But when Jacob's real identity is revealed, Claire realizes she has risked her reputation and heart on a man she doesn't truly know. Will Jacob be able to convince her that the Wild Earl has been tamed and that she is the true Countess of his heart?

Book #2: Bonnie
Miss Bonnie Hodges, governess to the Darrow family, is desperately trying to hold it together.
Tragedy has struck, and she is the sole person left to be strong for the two little boys in her care. When the new guardian arrives, she hopes that things will get better. She wasn't expecting her new employer to be the most frustrating, overbearing, and.. handsome man she's ever seen.

Sir Stephen Montgomery is utterly distracted. He should be trying to figure out how his two best friends were killed in a suspicious accident and why the new young viscount seems destined to be the next victim, But he can't concentrate on anything but his growing infatuation with the beautiful, mysterious and utterly captivating governess.

Together they're doing their best to save the two boys, but will Stephen's feelings for Bonnie get in the way of their search for a killer?

How the Governess Club was born

The Governess Club wasn’t meant to be a series. It originally was just to focus on Claire and Jacob’s story. That was all I had planned and was fine with it.
I follow Avon Romance on Facebook and one day they posted a link, calling for new authors. At this point I had been developing my craft for about five years, so I was fairly confident in my ability to produce. Submitting scared the bejeebers out of me, but hey, they were looking for new blood so I thought my chances were just as good as anyone else’s. I clicked on the link, read the descriptions of the different stories they were looking for and chose the one that suited me best, titled “The Governess Club.”
And so I wrote. I wrote as much as I could, often staying up late at night, getting only a few hours of sleep before heading to my day job. Such is the life of an aspiring writer; I do not consider myself more hard done by than others, because I know there are worse stories out there.
Then it happened. Three days before submission I experienced what I call the What If Factor.
I was taking a break from my frantic writing and for some reason was contemplating the significance of the word “club” in Regency England. They were a popular staple of gentle society – and some still are today – the most prominent being Whites, Brooks and Boodles. Bastions of the male entity, gentlemen would go there to escape their lives, their families, their responsibilities. Often there were rooms for bachelors and travellers to stay in, so long as they were members. All men would go there to smoke, drink, gamble, read the paper, talk politics, meet their friends and been seen by others – all in all, they would go there to be Men with a capital M.
Women didn’t really have “clubs” like that. They had their literary salons, their charities and their well-meaning societies, but they didn’t have “clubs.”
And then the What If Factor showed up. Hit me on the side of the head.
What if women did have clubs? What if Claire was in a club? What if that club was made up of other governesses with whom she was friends? Why would they do that? What would it look like?
Did you see it? The What If Factor?
Enter Bonnie, Sara and Louisa. They are friends with Claire and together come up with the idea of how to become independent, protecting themselves against poverty and the men who take advantage of them merely because of their station. And they call it The Governess Club.
GREAT idea. FANTASTIC idea. I loved it.
Did I mention it was three days before submission? The problem now was how to include it in the story I was currently writing. If I threw it in right where I was, it would completely derail what I already had planned. I didn’t want to scrap the idea, so I did the only thing I could think of.

How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates by Jane Linfoot
Review and Giveaway!

Blurb:
The 10 Date Challenge

Day 1: Take one loaded commitment-phobe explosive expert, embarking on the impossible-a challenge to have 10 dates with one woman.

Day 5: Add in a fiercely independent and feisty burlesque teacher that has sworn off men.

Day 10: She's so not his type and he's so not in her life-plan. But the heat is sizzling and the attraction is explosive. And they're fighting it all the way...

Review:
This is a lighthearted fun read full of humor and a whole lot of heat! Start with a bet, add two people both hiding things from their past and present from each other, both thinking they want something different, but drawn together by an irresistible chemistry and you have all the elements of a great book.

Millie wants to be independent she has broken free from her past and doesn't want to be tied down again, Once burned, never again..  but with Ed in hot pursuit she may find it hard to to turn him away, even when he assures her what he wants is only temporary..  Ed thinks he wants to win a bet, he thinks he only wants temporary, but after a few days with Millie, he may find that what he thinks he wants and actually needs are two different things!

I feel like the book should have been titled How to Win a Girl in 10 Dates, since Ed was doing most of the chasing and since he took the bet! This book has wonderful English flare and the dialect is enjoyable. I love learning new phrases and I definitely picked up a few while reading this book. It is well written and also well paced.

I give How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates 4 HAPPY STARS and think that it was a fun pick-you me up read. I love finding books like this especially when I have read a darker book recently. It is nice to know that there are books out there that I can count on to put a smile on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart.

Pick up this book, put on your cozy pj's, curl up in your favorite chair and prepare to escape reality for a few happy hours!

How to Tame a Wild Fireman by Jennifer Bernard
5 STAR/ALARM FIRE!

Blurb:
Firefighter Patrick "Psycho" Callahan earns his nickname every day. Fast, fit, and a furious worker, he thrives on danger which helps him forget a near-tragedy that changed his life forever. But when his off-duty carousing gets out of hand, Patrick is sent back to Loveless, Nevada, where the wildfire threatening his hometown has nothing on sizzling Dr. Lara Nelson.

Lara would rather be thought of as the physician who returned to Loveless than the misfit bought up at a hippie New Age commune. But right now she is focused on her job at hand, patching up injured firemen... until the past hits her in the hard-muscled, blue-eyed form for Patrick Callahan. Now, the embers of their decade-old attraction have ignited into a full-on inferno, as the bad-boy firefighter and the good doctor take a walk on the wild side they'll never forget.

Review:
I love Jen Bernard's Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series. I have enjoyed each book and  each time  I finish the latest, I aways say it's my favorite. Following my trend, How to Tame a Wild Fireman is my favorite book in this series to date. I have always been intrigued by Psycho, now I am a whole lot in love with him!

Psycho tends to do crazy things... part of that could be the adventurous part of him, the other part of it could be that he uses those things to mask emotional scars that he is trying to hide. After getting into a bit of trouble involving a digger and a plan for a swimming pool by the fire station, he volunteers to return to his hometown to work as a smoke jumper. Returning home proves more difficult than anticipated when he comes face to face with Lara and his family who still blame him for an accident that injured his younger brother.

Lara wants to be seen as more than the weird kid from the hippie commune. She has gone to school, proven herself and now she is back and has inherited her Aunt's commune, along with it's Goddesses (her Aunt's quirky friends/colleagues). They want to keep the commune open offering it's special form of therapy (lots of laughs here), but the part of Lara that needs to feel normal just wants to be done with it so she can get back to her normal life... then she runs into Patrick, and there is more than one wildfire ignited in Loveless.

Patrick and Lara have page-burning-turning chemistry. Their banter is fun and entertaining and this story is full of quirky characters from the Goddesses to a funny rescued animal that also loves Psycho. Be prepared for lots of action, laughter  and steamy lovemaking! I was looking for information and the release date for the next Bachelor Fireman book as soon as I turned the last page (Four Weddings and a Fireman- Release Date Set 2/25/2014).

I give How to Tame a Wild Fireman 5 STARS and have added it to my FAVORITE BOOKS list! I am so excited to have discovered this author and this series. I look forward to more great stories from Jen Bernard!

Rule by Jay Crownover
5 STARS FOR THIS BAD-BOY!

Blurb:
Sometimes opposites don't just attract- they catch fire and burn down the city.

Shaw Landon loved Rule Archer from the moment she laid eyes on him. Rule is everything a straight-A pre-med student like Shaw shouldn't want - and the only person she's never tried to please. She isn't afraid of his scary piercings and tattoos or his wild attitude. Though she knows that Rule is wrong for her, her heart just won't listen.

To a rebel like Rule Archer, Shaw Landon is a stuck-up perfect princess- and his dead twin brother's girl. She lives by other people's rules; he makes his own. He doesn't have time for a good girl like Shaw- even if she's the only one who can see the person he truly is.

But a short skirt- too many birthday cocktails and spilled secrets lead to a night neither can forget. Now, Shaw and Rule have to figure out how a girl like her and a guy like him are supposed to be together without  destroying their love... or each other.

Review:
Let me start out by saying I LOVED this book. I am giving it a solid 5 STARS!  I was hooked by the end of the first chapter and drawn into a story that was refreshing change from the typical New Adult romance plot.

HOWEVER AND A BIG HOWEVER: I almost didn't read this book...  I saw a blurb from another blogger promoting this book, but when I one-clicked to Amazon I noticed there were numerous reviews stating that the book was amazing, but the editing was not amazing. I hate a book with bad editing, but I noticed that the publisher was listed as Harper Collins, so I thought to myself there is no way this can be true.  I  did a little research on the backstory of this book and discovered the following: This book was released independently first, then it was so phenomenal the lovely folks at Harper Collins signed it and it was re-edited and re-released it. The reviews complaining about the editing and spelling issues were clearly written before its re-release, because I normally would notice errors and there were none noticeable to me. So first off- DON'T BELIEVE THE REVIEWS THAT SAY THERE ARE EDITING ISSUES. These are old and I am not sure how to make them go away, but if I could figure out a way myself I would do it. I want as many people as possible to discover this awesome book and I hate that something that is no longer the case would deter them from purchasing.

Now to the story...

Rule, oh Rule. I love my real man  he is a good boy, clean shaven, with his perfectly ironed shirts and non-tattted body.. but my book boyfriends.. that is a different story. Rule is tattooed, pierced and a bad-boy to the boot. There are many things that make Rule the bad-boy. Losing his twin brother, his mother blaming him and never really feeling that he fit in with his family. Then you meet little miss perfect Shaw. Honestly if I met Shaw in real life I would probably not have liked her very much, especially in the beginning, but as I got to know her and saw how deep her feelings were for Rule, I ended up loving her just as much as Rule and rooting for them to be together.

This book is packed with family drama, emotions.. hot sex and possibly a psycho ex. It will keep you turning the pages to find out what's next and also to see a little more Rule. I finished this book and immediately started the next book, Jet (review to come soon for Jet, but prepare to fall in love with another book bad-boy).

I suggested Rule to a few of my reading buddies and here are just a couple quotes that were sent back to me:

"I would never have purchased it without your recommendation. the reviews describing the editing issue were a huge turn off for me! The author needs to note on the summary that this has been edited since the original release. People are missing out on a great story."

"I haven't read a book I've loved this much in a long time.. I need to buy Jet, like yesterday, when is Rome being released?"

"Rule. omg.. if I had met this guy in college, my body would be covered in tattoo's- I would have been getting new one's just to have his hands on my body... I love my book boyfriends! Rule's mine, so back off ladies!"

Bottom line, this book rocks! Go buy it now, and once you read it and discover how truly awesome it is, go write a review on Amazon, people need to know this book is out there and AWESOME!

CAGE by Harper Sloan,
My 5 Star Review!

Blurb:
***Warning*** This book is intended for mature reading!

Greg Cage was born to protect. While growing up, he was his other and sister's shield against the world... until he failed. For the last decade, he has carried that guilt and need for vengeance around.. until it was stripped from him. Now, with his best friend getting married and no longer needing his protection, he is even more lost, completely adrift, and desperate for some control. All he has ever known was how to protect: his family, his friends, and his country. Can he go against everything he has ever known, and give up that control?

Melissa Larson will never let anyone hold the reins in her life. She has been the rock in her family for more years than she can remember, and the fight to keep them together is her main priority right now. She has always been fiercely independent and proud. The last thing she will ever do is ask for someone else's help. But when that choice is out of her control, forcing her to rely on others to save her and her family, and pick up the pieces that are left, will she be able to let someone else be her strength?

The second Greg locks eyes with Meli, he knows she is someone he needs. Someone he craves. Meli knew the second she met Greg that he would be nothing but trouble and heartache. Her life takes an unexpected turn, and that bitch Fate is back to wreak more havoc on another member of the Corps family.

All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg, no choices but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from Breakneck MC. Together they make sure nothing ever threatens anyone Greg loves again.

Review:

I knew I was going to love this story long before I ever one-clicked the buy-now button! I LOVED Axel the first book in Harper Sloan's Corps Security series and was already a little bit in love with Greg. He is large, gorgeous... and pierced (trust me after reading this you will want to know more about piercing- I may or may not have googled more details, so that this sheltered mom could get a better visual.. *blushing.. shh!).

Harper Sloan has a gift for creating alpha male characters that will make you toes curl and have you swooning before you finish reading his full description. Greg Cage is not just another pretty package, he is also an amazing man hiding under a rough exterior and a protective shield. Greg and Meli's first interactions would have possibly set my book pages on fire, had I not been reading on my Kindle. Greg's nickname for Meli is "Beauty".. and every time he called her that in this book my heart did a little flutter in my chest. They are hot, they need each other and they have a backstory that ties them together in ways that could also rip them apart.

My favorite quote from CAGE:
"I can't make you promises, Beauty. I can't sit here and tell you that I'm worth letting those walls down for, buy I can tell you that if the way I feel for you right now keeps growing, there isn't an army strong enough to pull me out."

This book contains lots of drama, HOT sex and plenty of alpha male goodness, all things that quickly earned it a spot on my shelf of books I really LOVED. There are more Corps security guys that I can't wait to get to know, up next is Beck.. and I am counting down the days to Locke.. Maddox has the potential to by my favorite of all the guys.

I am stalking this series and this author. Harper Sloan has earned a place on my auto-buy list! I give his book 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend you adding it you your TBR list. This series is made up of stand alone books, but I do recommend reading them in order. In Axel you meet most of the guys, you get to know them better in Cage and I have a feeling by the time Beck gets here I will feel like I am attending a family reunion.

PS> Be sure you check out the awesome playlist that Author Harper Sloan lists in the front of the book. It is so great to pair the songs with scenes as you are reading the book!

I bought this book because I fell in love with this series after reading the first book. I was in no way shape or form compensated for this review. Any opinions expressed here are my own.

One Lucky Vampire by Lynsay Sands
Argeneau 10-Year Anniversary
Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway!

Please join Save Your Money for Books in wishing Lynsay Sands and her Argeneau series a very happy 10 year anniversary!

Blurb:
Yes, Nicole Phillips has miraculously survived what appear to be three separate death threats from her ex-husband-to-be. But no, she does not need protection. At least that’s what she keeps telling everyone. But when her new housekeeper arrives complete with a sexy build and no-nonsense attitude, she can’t help but feel a little safer. That is until the passion between them heats up and she knows she’s really in trouble.

Jake Carlson never wanted to be immortal, or a vampire in the first place. Turned during an emergency by Vincent Argeneau, he’s been living his new life away from the clan as a bodyguard for hire. That is, until Marguerite Argeneau reappears with a new job opportunity: undercover protection for a family friend…as a housekeeper.

But when he discovers his beautiful new client is tougher than he first thought, Jake Thinks he might be the one in need of protection. Just not the physical kind.
With two weeks until her divorce proceedings are final, Jake must do everything in his power to keep Nicole safe and happy… he just hopes he can keep ahold of his heart in the process.

About the Argeneau Series:
I discovered this series in February of this year.  One of our monthly Avon Addict care packages contained a copy of Immortal Ever After. I had never read this author or series; I scanned the back copy of the book and thought this book sounds awesome, I started reading it and couldn’t put it down. In the span of a few hours Lynsay Sands acquired a new super fan and I found a new series that I HAD to read completely. (Quick link to my full review of Immortal Ever After).

I have read ALL 18 BOOKS since February and am anxiously awaiting the release of One Lucky Vampire the latest book in this series! I couldn’t accept fast enough when I was asked to be a part of the blog tour for the release of One Lucky Vampire.

There are tons of vampire series out there, but this one has so many things that make it unique, Lynsay Sands manages to effectively marry drama, HUMOR, lust and love all into one beautiful package. All of the Argeneau couples have amazing chemistry and the stories are full of depth and lots of humor. These vampires are so humanized, from their sensory awakening (and real food cravings) to their ability to empathize love and drive to protect those around them. Once each hero finds his life mate nothing will come between them, NOTHING!

This series can be read out of order or in order, and you still understand what is going on and it doesn’t take away from anything. I will however state that after reading all the books in order with the exception of Immortal Ever After, reading them in order will make some of the other books in the series feel like a family reunion, as you get to revisit the other characters.

Books 1-18 of Lynsay Sands Argeneau Series

My Favorite Argeneau Couple:
I was asked who my favorite Argeneau couple was and it was such a hard decision to make! I love them all, but I think my favorite couple has to be the first couple that made me fall in love with the series. Anders rescues Valerie and who doesn’t love a hero? Their chemistry makes your toes curl and I still laugh out loud when I think about Anders real name (you have to read this book to get that joke and I refuse to spoil it for anyone).  Although, I may change my mind about my favorite Argeneau couple once I get to read One Lucky Vampire…the back-story sounds awesome!

One Lucky Vampire will be released on September 24th and if you haven’t pre-ordered it already what are you waiting for?

Blue by You by Rachel Gibson

Blurb:
They say you never forget your first time, but there is nothing Blue Butler and Kasper Pennington would rather forget than their brief but fiery teenage love affair. Yeah, it was hot while it lasted, but then he went off to join the Marines, leaving Blue in New Orleans. She's tried to block him from her mind for good, but nothing can really erase the feeling she had when she was with him.

And now he's got the never to return- leaner, meaner, and strong enough to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless. Blue's a successful businesswoman now, with no time to figure out what went wrong all those years ago.  But Kasper knows eh's the one oman for him...and now he's got to prove it to her all over again.

Review:
Blue by You an eBook novella by Rachel Gibson was released this week. I read this book in one sitting and while I love RG's writing,  I have trouble with her novellas. She does such a beautiful job with her characterizations and storytelling that she pulls you in and you want MORE, way more than 100 pages. I loved these characters, but would have been over the moon if this story was expanded into a full length book. I would buy it guaranteed.

This story centers around Kasper and Blue two descendants of New Orleans plantation families that have been feuding for generations,  they had a past encounter years ago, but reconnect and their sexual chemistry ignites a fire that draws them together, but will they be able to overcome the obstacles to avoid history repeating itself?

I love the banter from Kasper's grandmother, the opening scene in graveyard when she is confessing to Blue's grandmother's grave had me smiling and laughing. While reading this novella I kept picturing scenes from Gone with the Wind and it made me want to go to New Orleans and visit one of these old plantation homes (hence, proof that RG can tell a great story-even in 100 pages).

Please don't let me dissuade you from purchasing this novella, it like everything else Rachel Gibson writes is a good read. I am giving it 3.5 Stars and  I think for any RG fan you will want this novella for your collection.

I will be reviewing that book next week, but let me tell you, Rachel Gibson is back on her A game. Run to you is FABULOUS, AWESOME, AMAZING... can you tell I loved it? I love most all or Rachel's books in general, they are all on my read and re-read shelves. I think Run to You may be my new favorite of all her books! I highly recommend pre-ordering it now!
