The Baby Bargain by Jennifer Apodaca

I love discovering new authors. Recently, I discovered Jennifer Lyon (who also writes as Jennifer Apodaca). I've read two of her books so far and both have been FIVE STAR!  I picked up her latest release, The Baby Bargain on Sunday night and had finished reading it by noon on Monday.

Description of The Baby Bargain courtesy of Amazon:
Seeing Adam Waters is the last thing veterinarian Megan Young expects. Ex-Marine, Ex-Boyfriend. And still extremely dangerous territory. But Adam doesn't know the secret that Megan has been keeping from him. The secret that was created three years ago, after their last night together...

Adam returns to Raven's Cove to sell his home in a final break with the town and memories that haunt him. The problem is that his attraction to Megan is as blazing hot as it ever was. But when a vicious smear campaign against Megan turns ugly, Adam learns the truth he never knew- he has a son.

Now the only way Megan can protect her child is to strike a bargain with Adam. And it's a bargain that looks a lot like blackmail...

The excerpt below is one of the most emotional exchanges in this book, it literally had me in tears, feeling their love and pain. This scene is when Megan tells Adam about his son:

"All these years, Meg, I thought of you in the long nights. You were what I fought for. I knew I could never be that man who would love you and have a family with you. But I fought for you... because I believed you were worth it. Good, honest, real. When I got so worn down at times I wanted to walk into the firestorm instead of run from it, I thought of you."

"And I kept fighting, wanting to make the world a better place for you."
Her eyes filled with tears. "Adam..."
He shook his head, refusing to let her suck him in again. "You're not that woman. You're not who I thought you were."

I can't even put into words how much I loved this book. Adam's belief that he is "damaged" makes you feel for him. Megan has worked so hard to be a good mom, to do better for her son and herself and she is such a great heroine. The story is gripping, the characters, the back characters, the dogs...

I tweeted Jennifer Lyon/Apodaca immediately after finishing the book, I had to know if she planned to write more books with the secondary characters from this book. She confirmed that Logan's (one of Adam's best friends) story will be next. The one secondary character I hope she writes about soon is Sienna, we are introduced to her as Adam's business partner, who's husband served with Adam, but was killed in the line of duty- I loved her and can't wait to see her get her happy ending as well!

The eBook is available for only $2.99 and in my opinion this is money well spent. Going forward any new books by Jennifer Lyon/Apodaca will be at the top of my TBR list!
