Playing the Field by Jennifer Seasons

Description:
The sexy baseball players of Jennifer Season's Diamonds and Dugouts Series are back with the story of a single mom, a hot rookie and a second chance at love...

Single mother Sonny Miller has spent years avoiding love. A rotten childhood and even rottener ex-boyfriend left her determined to protect her son- and herself- against the risks of romance. That is, until hotshot ballplayer JP Trudeau swaggers into her carefully constructed life, all sin-with-me eyes and irresistible grin. Sonny can't help but feel drawn to the sexy, confident man, even as every fiber of her being tells her to keep running the bases...

JP is known for being fast on his feet, not fast with his heart. But meeting Sonny and her boy sparks something in him- something he's never felt before, not from all the cleat-chasers in then major leagues. Sonny may be hell bent on keeping him at arm's length no matter what, but this rookie has a plan. To get the girl, he must step up to the plate and convince her to take another chance on love... before this game gets rained out.

Review:
"Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd... "- I love summer, I love baseball, I love baseball romance, so before I turned the first page I knew I was going to love Playing the Field by Jennifer Seasons.

After reading several "darker" or intense new adult romance novels this month, this book was just what the doctor ordered to lighten my mood!

Quirky characters always appeal to me, so I instantly liked Sonny. She is a single-mother making it on her own. She has her own business- a Goat Cheese business at that and is very superstitious.. JP is a farm boy from Iowa who made it in the Major Leagues and he is instantly drawn to Sonny and all her quirkiness.

Sonny's son suffers from Juvenile Diabetes. I enjoyed the tie in with this, Charlie is a fun loving kid that despite having a very serious childhood illness is able to lead a normal life. JP is amazing with Charlie and who doesn't love a man that realizes that Charlie is just as important to his relationship with Sonny as the relationship itself!

This is one of those books where there was nothing I didn't like about then hero or the heroine. It is a feel good read that will make you happy as they get to their happily ever after! I give this book four bright and happy smiley faces instead of stars!

  2. Feel good reads are always nice to stumble on. I don't think I've ever read one where a character had diabetes. How interesting. They sound like a great couple :)

  3. Hi Jennifer,
I enjoyed reading the excerpt from your book. I enjoy watching baseball and adore reading books with this particular theme. And, of course, happily ever after, as real life can be a bummer sometimes.

How you have time to write with 4 kids is beyond me...go
    woman!

Thanks for the review, and I will get this downloaded to my Kindle this evening.

    1. Thanks, Ginger! Writing with an infant and toddler (plus the bigger ones) definitely has its challenges. I think 90% of PLAYING THE FIELD was written with a newborn on my shoulder. Let's just say I'm one heckuva multitasker. :-)

      best,
      Jennifer Seasons
